Gorky Railway delegation explores Sespel’s transport manufacturing capabilities

On 11 June 2026, a Gorky Railway delegation led by First Deputy Head for Economics and Finance Oleg Lukoyanov visited Sespel’s second production site. Guests were shown a model of a magnetic levitation train and the company’s key capabilities: aluminium profile bodies, bridges made with orthotropic panels, storage vessels and friction stir welding. The delegation praised the organisation and energy efficiency of production, and the parties agreed to explore joint projects.
On 11 June 2026, Sespel’s second production site welcomed a delegation from Gorky Railway. The visit was led by Oleg Grigoryevich Lukoyanov, First Deputy Head of the railway for Economics, Finance and Corporate Coordination of Freight Transportation. The event formed part of an introduction to domestic manufacturers’ capabilities in serving the railway sector.
During a tour of the production facilities, guests were shown a model of a magnetic levitation (Maglev) train, demonstrating the company’s capabilities in developing next-generation transport systems.
The delegation explored Sespel’s key technological capabilities:- Manufacturing bodies from extruded aluminium profiles: lightweight, strong structures for rolling stock.
- Producing aluminium bridges with orthotropic panels, combining high load-bearing capacity with reduced weight.
- Manufacturing aluminium alloy vessels and metal structures for various applications, including tankers and storage tanks.
- Friction stir welding (FSW) technology and proprietary equipment for producing high-strength permanent joints.
Particular attention was paid to welding. Sespel is one of Russia’s leading developers and manufacturers of FSW equipment, reinforcing its position as a high-tech supplier to the aerospace, petrochemical and transport industries.
Gorky Railway’s management praised the organisation of production, its technical equipment and the energy efficiency of the solutions in use. Aluminium structures can significantly reduce rolling stock weight and improve operating performance.
Following the visit, the parties agreed to further explore areas for joint work. They are considering the use of Sespel products in modernising Gorky Railway’s infrastructure and rolling stock, potentially marking an important step in partnerships between manufacturing and the transport sector.
