Sespel presents friction stir welding technology at a board meeting

Cheboksary Enterprise Sespel CJSC participated in a meeting of the Board of Directors of Tatneftekhiminvest-holding JSC, chaired by Rustam Minnikhanov. The company presented industrial solutions based on friction stir welding (FSW).
Company Director Vladimir Bakshaev presented the prospects for using the process in petrochemical engineering, aerospace and the manufacture of large storage vessels. The presentation showcased the company’s distinctive developments: bridges and silos made from extruded aluminium-magnesium profiles with interlocking joints produced using FSW.
Vladimir Bakshaev also proposed industrial placements at the company for KNRTU-KAI students, introducing future engineers to advanced technologies during their studies. The initiative was supported by Tatneftekhiminvest-holding’s management and the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, who emphasised the importance of integrating science, education and industry.
Rustam Minnikhanov, who chairs the Board of Directors of Tatneftekhiminvest-holding, supported this approach to integrating science, education and industry. At the meeting, he stressed: “Without applying scientific achievements, we cannot make a breakthrough. Today, supporting our own domestic science is essential. How effectively we use its achievements depends entirely on us.”
Sespel’s proposal to offer placements to KNRTU-KAI students could become a pilot project across the republic. For the company, which manufactures distinctive equipment and products for the oil and gas, chemical and transport engineering industries, recruiting young people familiar with advanced technologies through their studies is essential to maintaining technological leadership.
Sespel’s presentation therefore went beyond showcasing equipment and products. It outlined a systematic approach: for innovations such as friction stir welding to benefit the national economy, a new generation of engineers must be trained directly on machines developed by Russian industry.
