Design features

The silos are monolithic structures manufactured using friction stir welding (FSW). The shell is made from extruded aluminium profiles, with the weld face on the inside and the weld root on the outside. The closing longitudinal seam and circumferential seams are produced using arc welding or FSW. The rolled sheet surface receives no additional machining.

The silos were manufactured to the customer’s technical requirements and passed acceptance tests at Sespel’s production site. FSW ensures a monolithic structure, leak-tight seams and no internal stresses, which is particularly important for long-term operation of storage vessels. In November 2025, the customer confirmed successful installation and commissioning.
