Sespel’s innovative silos made from extruded aluminium profiles

The world’s first three silos made from extruded aluminium profiles have been shipped to a customer by Sespel. This distinctive achievement involved designing, manufacturing and shipping the silos using modern technologies, including friction stir welding (FSW).

The innovative silos are designed for storing and transporting grain and other bulk materials. They offer an alternative to conventional steel structures, with advantages including lower weight, high corrosion resistance, a longer service life and easier transport and installation.

The silos help preserve their contents through a leak-tight structure and the environmental properties of the aluminium alloy used. This is particularly important for businesses requiring high standards of hygiene and storage safety.

The silos will form part of a modern storage and logistics system at the customer’s facility, improving efficiency and reducing operating costs.
