Sespel’s friction stir welding (FSW) machines and gantry milling machines are designed and manufactured by specialists at Cheboksary Enterprise Sespel CJSC. They provide precision machining and welding of aluminium structures, ensuring consistent joint quality and reliability.

Sespel’s complete in-house machine manufacturing cycle ensures high product quality. The plant produces both the machines and all consumables, including working tools, providing customers with a comprehensive solution.

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a modern method of joining metal workpieces that is particularly effective for aluminium alloys. It produces strong, leak-tight, high-quality welds without additional materials.

In FSW, a specially shaped rotating tool is inserted between the adjoining edges of sheets or plates and moves along the joint line. Friction heats the workpieces, softening and stirring the material to create a strong, uniform joint.

Localised heating without melting avoids defects associated with conventional welding, including porosity, cracks and slag inclusions.

Combining gantry milling machines with FSW systems makes Sespel equipment a versatile solution for transport engineering, shipbuilding, aerospace and other sectors requiring precise machining and reliable welding.
