Tooling for assembling and welding 4,100 mm cylindrical shells: from design to delivery

Sespel specialists completed the full scope of engineering documentation, process design and manufacture of specialised equipment for large cylindrical shells. Detailed technical requirements were agreed with the customer at the outset: a load capacity of up to 15 tonnes, positioning accuracy within 0.1 mm and the ability to process parts up to 6 metres long.
During the project, the company’s engineers completed the following stages:- Developing 3D models and detailed tooling drawings
- Manufacturing load-bearing structures from high-strength steel
- Integrating a hydraulic workpiece clamping system
- Installing precision guide components
- Installing an automatic geometry monitoring system
After assembly, the equipment was delivered to the customer’s production site, where Sespel specialists installed, aligned and commissioned it. Particular attention was paid to testing positioning and checking all process assemblies under load.
This comprehensive approach, from design through commissioning, ensured full compliance with customer requirements and readiness for continuous industrial use in series production. The equipment passed acceptance tests and entered service manufacturing critical structures for power engineering.
