Final testing and shipment preparations have been completed at Sespel for a large aluminium silo ordered by one of our customers. This modern solution for safe, long-term storage of bulk products was designed and manufactured using advanced engineering approaches. Key specifications include a usable volume of 190 m³, a height of 23.75 m and a diameter of 3.5 m. The structure features a single-piece shell made from extruded aluminium profiles.

A distinctive manufacturing feature is robotic friction stir welding (FSW). Its key advantage is a monolithic structure with welds as strong as the parent material. Unlike conventional welding, FSW does not melt the metal but “stirs” it at the molecular level, eliminating pores, incomplete fusion and internal stresses, which are major causes of structural failure.

The special aluminium alloy structure resists corrosion even in aggressive environments, making it suitable for a wide range of products, from foodstuffs to chemicals. The silo requires no regular painting or complex corrosion protection, significantly reducing lifecycle costs. Stiffening ribs integrated into the extruded profiles provide exceptional resistance to wind and operating loads with minimal weight, simplifying transport and installation. The smooth interior prevents material from lodging in seams and makes cleaning and maintenance easier.
