New tooling component for the existing Sespel Progress friction stir welding machine

The fixture joins a cone to the cylindrical base of a tank structure through meridional seams. It ensures accurate, reliable welds, which are particularly important for tanks exposed to various operating loads.

The fixture precisely positions structural components and distributes forces evenly along the seam, ensuring a strong, leak-tight joint. This is particularly relevant when manufacturing tanks for chemicals, fuel and other substances where safety and reliability are essential.

A meridional seam follows the centre line of the product, joining its components to distribute loads evenly and provide a leak-tight connection. Such seams are widely used in tanks, reservoirs and other vessel structures.

Fixtures for meridional seams allow welding automation, improve finished product quality and reduce assembly and welding time for complex structures.

This approach provides a versatile, reliable solution for mechanical engineering, the chemical industry and other sectors requiring high-quality welds.
